Wake County Public Libraries celebrates music, dance and the arts in September
Wake County Public Libraries will highlight music, dance and the arts with a month of programs designed to inspire creativity, encourage cultural exploration and strengthen community connections. From henna and Madhubani art, to Ukrainian dance and live music, there’s something for everyone in September.
“Libraries are places where people can come together to discover new ideas and explore their own creativity,” said Wake County Commissioner Tara Waters. “Our Music, Dance and Arts Month programs give the community opportunities to experience different forms of artistic expression and connect with one another in meaningful ways.”
Attendees will have the chance to see live performances, talk with artists and even create their own art. All events are free, but some require registration. Featured programs include:
Music in the Library: Mike Markowitz
Sunday, Sept. 6 | 3–4 p.m.
Cary Regional Library
Enjoy an hour of jazz and new age piano music from Michael Markowitz.
Ukrainian Dance in the Library
Saturday, Sept. 19 | 2:30–3:30 p.m.
East Regional Library
Join the Tsvitinnya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble for a glimpse into Ukrainian culture with dance performances and opportunities to learn a few steps.
Artist in Residence: Mayura Yeolekar
Saturday, Sept. 26 | 2–3 p.m.
Morrisville Community Library
Mayura Yeolekar will discuss the history of Madhubani art, a traditional folk painting style originating from the Mithila region of Bihar, India and parts of Nepal.
Music in the Library: Bach’s Cello Suites
Sunday, Sept. 27 | 2–3 p.m.
Oberlin Regional Library
Enjoy a captivating performance by local cellist Adithya Muralidharan as he performs J.S. Bach’s fourth, fifth and sixth Cello Suites. Experience the elegance, emotion and depth of these iconic works.
La Fiesta Latin Jazz Quintet
Tuesday, Sept. 29 | 5:30–6:30 p.m.
Athens Drive Community Library
Explore the roots and rhythms of Latin jazz with a musical performance from La Fiesta Latin Jazz Quintet.
Henna Art
Wednesday, Sept. 30 | 6–7 p.m.
West Regional Library
Discover the beauty and tradition of henna in this fun, hands-on program! Learn about the history and cultural significance of henna. Participants will receive a small, natural henna design while learning about the safe use of natural henna.
