Blast at Greek Biscuit Plant Leaves Four Dead
The explosion struck at approximately 4 am local time (0200GMT), when an estimated 12 to 13 staff members were on duty.
A public broadcaster stated that four severely burned bodies were discovered several hours after the incident occurred.
Search operations are still in progress to locate an additional employee who has not yet been found, the broadcaster reported.
Six other workers sustained injuries, along with a firefighter from the regional emergency response unit that rushed to the scene. All of them were transported to Trikala General Hospital for medical treatment, the broadcaster added.
Authorities have not yet determined what triggered the explosion.
Nevertheless, witnesses said the force of the blast was so intense that it could be heard across numerous surrounding villages as well as in the city center.
